Juvenile peregrine…
I watched a young falcon use a ridge line to hunt. The peregrine was in the vicinity of Wills Canyon this morning. It seemed like the falcon was using the orographic effect of the headland of Wills Canyon to build speed before diving on its prey in the open field. Also, it seemed like the falcon was using the chaparral along the ridge, zigzagging through the trees along the ridge. The falcon was fast and diving in the direction of the sun and hard to follow. It looked like the falcon caught a bird, I only saw what looked like the falcon and a small bird separating. Maybe the young falcon was training?
