Today was a scorcher

Today was so hot an oak tree kind of melted in front of me. I was about 100 feet or less from a tree that crashed down onto the trail. The sound it made was peculiar, it started like a deer walking then running through the brush before the sound of the trunk splitting. That’s the first time that I have seen or heard a tree break.
