Neighborhood nest activity

There are four nests that I know of and can see from my bike trails, red-tailed hawk, cooper’s hawk, great horned owl and crow. I noticed the red-tailed hawk sitting in her nest as I passed by twice this week. There were two chicks that fledged from that nest last year. I think the owls have an egg this week. When the male arrived at the utility pole on Wednesday the pair carried on a conversation while the hen remained in the tree. She is out of my view. The male took off after a few minutes but not before flying to the palm tree. I imagine she was giving him her food order. As of today the hen’s name is Ell and the male’s name is Lars. The names come from the street where the nest is located, El Roblar. The nest that was up for grabs between crows and red-shouldered hawks appears to be a crows nest. I haven’t seen the hawks around for a couple of weeks. I spotted a crow pair at the nest the other morning chasing a single crow away. That altercation at this nest was the most activity that I have seen so far. I spotted a nest that I think belongs to cooper’s hawk pair the other day. There was a coop pair being very vocal as I passed by in last couple of days. The coop activity has been high in that area in the past and I can’t image a bird other than coop pair occupying that nest. Those hawks will eat just about anything.
